Diamond In The Dirt

You have to dig deep. You have to keep searching. Don't settle for what is easy. Don't allow the lazy mind to win. Follow your gut. It sounds contrived but you know when something isn't right. You feel it. Trust it. Keep believing there is more to be found. Don't settle for lukewarm. Give me red hot or ice cold, not that wishy washy middle ground. Push. Irk. Prod. Make waves. Waves allow other people to go surfing. When you keep digging you find gold, but remember all that glitters isn't gold.

Anger Never Works

The moment you get angry is the moment you lose your balance. Anger distorts your perspective. Anger makes up stories in your head. Anger gives your power away. Anger makes you more angry. No battle, argument, discussion ever is resolved through anger. Only when the anger subsides can there be a resolution, although often things that were said in anger still linger like a bad smell. You can't fight fire with fire. You can't protest for peace with anger. What you resist persists. What are we all so angry about anyway?

The Road To Nowhere

When Talking Heads sang 'we're on a road to nowhere' back in the 1980's, everyone danced along merrily. Since then lead singer David Byrne has galvanised his place in rock history but also proven his metal with regards to enlightening the human condition. Turns out when he sang those words back in the day, he actually meant it. What if he's right and there is no 'destination'? What if those people who say that it's all about the journey are right? What if you reach your destination and it still isn't enough? There is only one way that I know to beat the 'what ifs' and that is to try and remain as present as possible as often as possible....Read More

What Can We Do?

Barcelona, London, Paris, Nantes, Manchester. The attacks keep coming. The fear, the anger, the hurt, the pain and the suffering keeps on growing. In the aftermath of these evil attacks, political and religious leaders all over the world will offer their sincere condolences and make bold statements about staying strong and not letting fear win. And for a while this show of positivity and strength will make us feel a little better, but soon enough we come to realise that nothing has changed and nothing likely will. I don't want to go into depth regarding conspiracy theories of how the political and religious organisations and institutions may have a vested interest in maintaining the 'status quo'. What is most valuable...Read More

Progress Is Progress

We want to be over there, when we are over here. We want more, better, faster, stronger. We want it NOW. We've always heard the advice that slow and steady win the race and we've grown up with the tale of the tortoise and the hare, yet still we pursue progress with an unhealthy impatience and haste. One tiny step is still progress, even if it appears to be a step backwards. Movement is movement whichever direction, or whichever way you look at it. If you see life from the perspective that everything is experience then there can be no such thing as a backwards step.  We move, we learn, we move again. Progress is progress.

Act As If

Act as if. That's what my good friend and mentor used to tell me. It basically is another way of saying fake it until you make it, but it works. For most people they wait until they have perfected their product, completed their novel, gained enough life experience before they put themselves out there. They rarely get there, many wait forever. Starting is the biggest and hardest step of all but once you've started you can build momentum, gain experience, learn lessons, perfect and hone things along the way. If you don't start you are already behind in the game. Act as if you know the eventual desired outcome and draw it to you. Get out there, hustle, listen, learn,...Read More

Life Is Too Short

Life is too short just may be the oldest, most overused and yet ineffective cliche of all time. We all say it. We all say it a lot. Usually we say it after we experience or hear of difficult or sad events. We use it as a way to motivate ourselves to then go and make the most of our lives - knowing just how uncertain and limited our time on this planet is. But then we quickly forget. We revert back to our ordinary lives and much of the impact and intent of having said those four words when we did fades away until the next time. But if life is too short is correct, there may not be...Read More

Showing Up

Eighty percent of life is showing up - Woody Allen That's all you need to do. Show up. Each and every day, just show up. Somedays you will be inspired. Somedays you will need inspiration.  Somedays you will be tired and weary, other days you will be filled with energy and motivation.  It doesn't really matter, so long as you are there. Fully. You have to be there fully and the only way to do that is to totally accept without judgement the particular state or experience that is right in front of you. So be tired but accept that tiredness without resistance or judgement, just be tired. Angry? Be that anger fully. Accept it, feel it. Don't push it...Read More

It’s not what you know that matters, it’s knowing what you don’t

In the digital world all the knowledge and information we could want is at our fingertips. There isn't really very much we can't find online. This should come as a huge relief. We no longer need to pressure ourselves to retain information, the majority of it meaningless and useless anyway. If we need to access it, it's there. This levels the playing field to some degree because we all have equal access to most of this information. So if you were an 80's pop trivia marvel reveling for the last thirty years in your glorious retention of minutae, sorry mate we all have that knowledge now. This leaves us with another problem then. What do we really know? What do...Read More

Gratitude IS an attitude

Regardless of whether you believe some of the bogus hocus pocus that is out there regarding gratitude and writing gratitude journals. Regardless of whether you believe that the Universe will send you everything you express gratitude for. Regardless of whether one of the key components of cosmic ordering is an attitude of gratitude. When it simply comes down to it, gratitude feels good. End of. To appreciate what you have and where you are and not to wish to be or have something more is freeing. It feels good. It means you can relax into yourself. Be who you are. Enjoy who you are. Enjoy the moment.
